The heavy rainfall Quito on January 31st resulted in flooding of the region as numerous landslides. One of the institutions that were affected was the Mejia National School. Water and mud entered the school’s classrooms and historic library compromising its documentary heritage collection. The excessive rain also caused the ceiling to collapse, further increasing the amount of water that the collection was exposed to. The collection was already in need of stabilization interventions and this need has only been exacerbated by this latest disaster. With this project, Conservartecuador, is cleaning, drying and repacking the collection, evacuating it to a safe storage and restoring the fragile collection.
