On June 11, 2021, the basement storage area of Museo de Antioquia was flooded owing to the torrential rains experienced in the area. The museum’s drainage system depends on a 27” drainage pipe that runs through the entire centre of the building and deposits water into the creek. When the water level of the creek rose, the water from the creek flowed back up through the pipe and into the museum. This led to the storage room(s) located in the basement of the building being flooded with contaminated water. After the flooding incident, the water was drained from the basement and the museum’s staff managed to evacuate the collections housed in the basement storage to other parts of the museum building. This project focused on further draining flooded areas and restoring the affected exhibition spaces and archival furniture.
